The theme for the photography competition for the months of February was "Love" and as always, the club members came up with some great snaps on the topic.
The competition as judged by ace photographer, Mr. Prasad Pankar
Here are the results:
1st Place: Achintya Kambli -Love
Description: In the hustle and bustle of the marriage hall, and the responsibilities which come along by being a relative of the to-be-wed, the mother still has time for her children.....
Mother's Love never falters, never fails.....she always will put the needs and desires of her children ahead of hers.....
Camera Details: taken from 2.0 MP camera of my cellphone 7210 supernova.....a bit of editing to make it look better....
Camera settings: Please ignore them for my camera...almost none.....
Judge's comment: The rarity of the moment wins this the prize. The child sleeping in the woman's lap, while the other child holds on to her mother, while maintaining beautiful eye contact. Technically could have been better, but the beauty of the moment makes it a winning snap.
2nd Place: Sagar Kamat -Homecoming
Description: Day after day, Night after night, they keep coming back to their little ones, bringing in food and care and so much more. And all this to just see them fly away someday, in pursuit of their own worldly dreams. Can anything else but 'love' explain this homecoming?
Photo Details: Nikon s550 ISO; 83(auto) Shutter speed:1/126(auto) Aperture; s/5.6
Judge's Comment: It's really easy to imagine a scene like this and draw it, but to actually be able to capture a scene as rare as this is very difficult.
3rd Place: Rohan Kelkar -Atoot Rishta Hai Ye... Atoot Jod hai ye
Description: Picture quality not so good. Taken with a low end phone camera.
Judges Comment: Another lovely pic, with a lovely caption that has been well thought out. Technically, a poor shot, but the candidness of the photograph wins it the prize.
Mr. Pankar also suggested that members work harder towards getting candid shots, rather than staged shots.
Congratulations to the all the winners!!

Club members win third at Tatva 2010
The Photography Club of GEC has constantly encouraged its members to participate in photography competitions at college festivals across the state. These competitions are a great way to judge your abilities at the competition level, and to meet fellow photographers from other colleges.
And the club members have managed to win quite a few awards at these competitions.
Recently, at V.M.Salgaocar College of Law's college fest Tatva, club members Achintya Kambli and Sagar Kamat won the Third place in the photography event.
The event consisted of making a slideshow of 6 images (within 3 hours) on the topic Goa from 2000 to 2010 and the duo managed to come up a great set of images showing the contrast in Goa between 2000 and now.
Their photo slideshow is shown below:
Great going guys!! Keep clicking such wonderful snaps!!

March Photography Competition!!
Over the last few months, the Photography Club of GEC has grown by leaps and bounds, and we've explored the world of photography through many mediums ranging from exhibition visits to lectures to phototreks. The monthly theme based competitions have become the talk of the campus, with the Photography Club notice board becoming one of the most talked about notice boards on campus!! And it just keeps getting better!
And this month, the biggest name in Indian photography will be associated with the competition. I'm talking about photography ace Daboo Ratnani, who was recently selected as The Most Influential Person in Asian Photography, who has graciously agreed to judge the competition for the month of March.
And the topic he has chosen for the competition is: "Innocence".
The dictionary defines the term innocence as freedom from sin or moral wrong; freedom from legal or specific wrong; guiltlessness; simplicity; absence of guile or cunning.
Yet this definition doesn't manage to capture the essence of the term. Innocence is something that we all recognise, yet are unable to define. And as such, it's a topic that can be very well expressed through photographs!!
Each person will be allowed a maximum of three entries.
Kindly submit your photographs along with the following details:
Hoping to see your best clicks!!
Happy clicking!!
