Club Field Trip: Photography Exhibition at Big Foot,Loutolim

22nd August, 2009:
A total of 8 members of the club turned up at Big Foot, Loutolim to check out the photography exhibition by students of The CMYK Academy of Photography, Mapusa.

There were many wonderful pictures put up on display at the exhibition.(Infact many of the total 114 photographs on display were magnificent!!) There were snaps with really splendid color contrasts and some really skilled candid photos. The theme of the exhibition was ‘Trees -Our Life Support’ and as such, there were loads of photographs of trees, plants and other greenery. You can say there was a nature photographers paradise, on display at the exhibition!! Many of us tried to guess the techniques that the students of the academy might have used to capture the snaps.

This exhibition, being the first club field trip, provided the members with healthy exposure to different photography techniques, and gave them an idea of the various methods by which a photographer can compose the frame for a photograph.

On-campus Photo Session

The Photography Club of GEC had its second meeting on the 20th of August, which mainly consisted of a hands-on on-campus nature photography session. Most members turned up despite the fact that the meeting had been scheduled (coincidentally of course) in the midst of some members' internal exams!! The enthusiastic shutterbugs had a splendid time out in the open, clicking snaps and sharing information about various tricks of photography. The photoshoot was carried out around the back of the campus (in the (in)famous windmill area).

The photography was (informally) centered on macro photography. Members had a lot of fun clicking snaps of flowers, little insects, and even a certain member of the gastropoda class of molluscs which hogged the limelight for quite some time!!

A field trip to Big Foot, Loutolim was planned, to view a photography exhibition by students of noted Goan photographer Mr. Prasad Pankar’s institute, The CMYK Academy of Photography, Mapusa.

The evening ended with a small presentation given by Mr. Pranav Vernekar.

Say Cheeeeeese!!

You can view some of the snaps clicked on the day at:

Club members excel at Technix!

The photography club is proud to announce that the first two places of the photography contest at Technix were bagged by 2 members from the photography club, Mr. Pranav Vernakar (1st place) & Mr Noah Silveira (2nd place)...

Following were the winning photographs:

1. Perspective ~ Picture by Pranav
Vernekar (BE ETC)

The snap is clicked on GEC grounds, behind the windmill.

Its all about how you look at it, you can either see a scooter, consuming non-renewable source of energy, or a wind mill, which is a renewable source of energy.

2. Glorious Ambiance ~ Picture by Noah Silveira (BE ETC)

Here,I’ve clicked the snap with a lower shutter speed, and at the same time I’ve rotated the camera in a circular motion, giving the image an illusion that the pattern of Technix (in simple Ultra Bright LEDs) bursting out of the plane!

Thus giving a visual description of the event.

Photography Club, Opening Day at GEC

Goa College of Engineering at Farmagudi, Ponda has just opened a new club today, called the 'Photography Club'. A group of final year students have decided to put together a community who shares common interests and develop skills in the field of Photography.

'Its about time' they said, 'the college gives students the opportunity to develop their talents in fields other than only academics.'

The opening was an interesting meeting where Enthusiasts gathered, a small presentation was given by Mr. Noah Silveira, BE ETC, in which he put forward many misconceptions in digital photography and also gave interesting events to be held in the forthcoming year.

The club committee, comprising of Mr. Nikhil Kakodkar, Mr.Pranav Pai Vernekar & Mr.Noah Silveira, put forward ideas like: trekking & photo shoots.

An interesting one is the 'Pic of the Month', in which every month a theme will be given to the college and the pictures submitted will be judged by a professional, the winning photo will be displayed on the noticeboard. The theme for the month of August is 'Go Green', wherein one could capture Nature's beauty in all its fullness, especially this season of the year.

Overall the first meeting seemed to be a great start to a new beginning in the field of photography. We ought to appreciate the work put behind getting this wonderful initiative to practice.

How To Contribute To Our Pool

One of the main aims of the Photography Club of G.E.C. is to create a database of photographs clicked by students of the college. As such we would be more than glad to receive some of your best pictures so that we may display them on the blog. Here are the ways how you can contribute to our pool:

1) Through Flickr :
Flickr is one of the most popular photo sharing websites on the web today. As such, the Club has set up its own group on the site. You can join the group and then add pictures to the pool. The group can be accessed at:

Flickr.com/groups/photographygec/

Apart from the group, a Flickr account has also been created in which snaps (especially entries for the monthly photography competitions) will be displayed. You can see the pictures at

Flickr.com/photos/photographygec/

Please also tag your Flickr photos with 'GECPhotography'. This will make it easier to search and add the photos to our database.

Note: If you have a Yahoo! ID, Flickr doesn't require any extra specific registration... You can simply logon to Flickr.com and login with a Yahoo! ID.

2) Through Email :
You can mail your pictures to photographygec{at}gmail{dot}com and we'll integrate the pictures into the blog.

We hope that you will join us in this goal to collect as many Engico-clicked photographs as possible!!
